Sorry, I Failed Miserably!

Rewind to March: I was only just getting back into golf after my lumbar discectomy the previous September. As expected, my game wasn’t exactly great, but honestly, I was just grateful to be swinging relatively pain free. Being back out there felt brilliant, whether it was a Saturday game with a needle over a fiver or those twilight rounds with family and friends that I love most.

Before returning to the course, I’d promised myself I’d keep things simple for the 2025 season: a short set of clubs and a pencil bag. The idea was to avoid relying on a trolley and keep that sense of lightness and creativity I’d enjoyed previously when playing a short-set.

However, the short-set commitment didn’t exactly go to plan. I managed a couple of weeks with eight clubs and the pencil bag before reality kicked in - even carrying the pencil bag aggrivated my back and leg. I tried to persevere thinking it would improve with reps, but eventually the trolley made its way back, and once it did, the full set returned too. Pushing around eight clubs just felt and looked odd.

I started the season at 10.3 and, unsurprisingly, wrapped it up at 12.2. But hey, it was great to be back playing!

Roll on 2026!

Michael
